On July 11, 2025, Palmetto Unified School District (PUSD) launched the new academic year with a powerful Convocation and Board Meeting at the SCDC pavilion in Columbia, SC. The day brought together educators, administrators, and district leaders to align on goals, celebrate excellence, and prepare for the year ahead.

The morning began with warm greetings from Dr. Cynthia Cash-Greene, followed by the introduction of staff across all regions by PUSD principals. It was an energizing start that set the tone for a day of connection, recognition, and forward focus.

The Board of Trustees convened at 10:00 a.m., opening with remarks from Mr. Joel Anderson, Interim Director of SCDC. Key district updates were presented by:

  • Ms. Martin and Dr. Cash-Greene – Budget and Financial Planning
  • Mr. Zimmerman – Vision, Mission, 2025-26 District Strategic Plan Goals
  • Dr. Holiday – Adult Education, GED, and WIN Attainments and Updates
  • Dr. Thompson – Career and Technical Education Report
  • Dr. Cash-Greene – Post-Secondary Program Overview

A major highlight of the day was the celebration of outstanding team members. PUSD proudly recognized:

  • The 2025–2026 Teacher of the Year: Ms. Yvette Lakin
  • The 2025–2026 Classified Employee of the Year: Mr. Donta Brown
  • Regional Teacher of the Year
  • Regional Classified Employee of the Year
  • And our honored retirees, who were celebrated for their years of dedicated service to the district

Following a midday break and lunch, the convocation resumed with an overview of expected outcomes for the new school year by Dr. Cash-Greene, followed by projected goals for 2025–2026.

The day concluded with school recognitions and a Regional Celebration, where each region presented its own unique theme, reflecting the creativity, collaboration, and community spirit that define PUSD.
